The Tradesman’s Pre-Call Phone Script Template
Stop wasting time with unqualified callers. This simple, proven script maximizes
lead qualification and booking success, turning inquiries into confirmed appointments.
The Professional and Transparent Approach to Calls
Every ring of the phone represents a potential lead—and a significant investment if you are paying for ads (PPC or LSA). Poor phone etiquette or a lack of process is a direct cause of a high Cost Per Qualified Lead (CPL). This script is designed not just to sound professional, but to quickly determine the customer’s intent, service area, and urgency, ensuring your valuable field time is spent only on high-quality jobs.
The 4-Step Lead Qualification Script
Step 1: The Confident Introduction
Script Line: “Thank you for calling TEXSEON Plumbing, this is [Your Name] speaking. How can I help you today?”
Goal: Establish professionalism and set the tone. Use the full business name to reinforce branding.
Step 2: Qualify the Need and Location
Script Line: “I can certainly help with that. To get an accurate idea of our response time, could you tell me what city you are located in and if this is for an emergency repair or a new quote?”
Goal: Immediately filter out calls outside the service area and assess urgency. This is critical for scheduling efficiency.
Step 3: Collect Key Details and Budget Expectations
Script Line (General): “Thank you. Just so we know what our technician is walking into, can you describe the problem? For example, is the pipe visibly leaking or just dripping?”
Script Line (Quote/High-Ticket): “Before we schedule the on-site estimate, are you looking to keep the budget for this new roof/HVAC replacement in the $X,XXX – $XX,XXX range?”
Goal: Get the necessary context for the job and gently qualify their budget on large projects. Result: Avoids driving out for a project they cannot afford.
Step 4: Book the Appointment and Confirm
Script Line: “Great. We have an opening at 2:00 PM tomorrow or 9:00 AM on Thursday. Which works best? I will send you a text confirmation with the technician’s name and an ETA window.”
Goal: Use the “either/or” technique to drive commitment. End with a confirmation method (text/email) to minimize no-shows.
The Results-Oriented Bottom Line
Your marketing team (whether it is you or a partner) is responsible for generating high-quality Lead Volume. However, if your phone script fails to qualify, that investment is wasted. This script creates the professional, transparent interface you need to confirm bookings. If your phone is not ringing enough, the problem is not your script—it is your online presence.
